The lab instructor will coordinate with the full time instructors and Program Chair to facilitate hands on instruction with the students while working in the lab environment. He/she will present subject matter to students using demonstrations, discussions, and/or lectures.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and Automotive Certificate
Minimum of one year of experience working in an automotive shop
Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office
Knowledge of automotive equipment, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment
Minimum of one year of experience working in an automotive shop

Preferred Qualifications
Associate of Applied Science in a related field
Three years of experience working in an automotive shop
Teaching experience

Essential Functions
Prepares classroom or laboratory for instruction; sets up equipment, tools, and materials for demonstrations and hands-on lab assignments; collects, maintains and stores equipment and materials after classroom or lab usage
Demonstrate and instruct the students in the proper use and application of shop equipment and hand tools used in the modern automotive lab
Tutors and assists students individually or in groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts
Instruct and assist students in a wide range of assignments to include auto diagnostic, repair work, and related tasks associated with repair projects, involving:
Engines
Electrical systems
Steering and Wheel Alignment
Transmissions
Brakes
Air Conditioning systems
General Maintenance
Occasionally instructs credit classes in the absence of the assigned instructor
Maintain and keep the lab and compound area clean and safe for student activities
Provides clerical support to include ordering, cataloging, and maintaining tools, supplies, and equipment; tool inventory to be completed monthly
Perform monthly maintenance inspections of shop equipment, monitor and maintain the equipment in the lab and automobiles stored in the compound to ensure they are safe and suited for use in lab activities
Update student records monthly
Other duties as assigned

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a lab setting
Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Use of manual dexterity, including the operating lab equipment and apparatus that requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination
Able to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
Must be able to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds
Able to verbally communicate to exchange information
Requirement of wearing safety glasses or goggles
Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
